The Fork Inn Trail (1.1 mi) is a loop trail. Like all circles, it has no beginning and no end, but you access it where it intersects with your travels. It works best if you walk it clockwise by turning left when you meet it. If you are not walking to it, park your vehicle at the Headwaters Park (mile marker 1.9).
Rosie’s Loop Trail (0.4 mi) is an easy trail which brings you back to where you began. Visit Rosie the Donkey, the oldest and most demanding of all our quadrupeds. If you don’t feed her, she will bray until the cows (or Winston) comes home. She is exceptionally sweet with the softest of lips. This trail ascends gently to the treeline and then turns north with beuatuful views of the pastures below. Instead of turning left at its northernmost point, you may go right and continue along the much longer and steep Dobbins trail.
The Log Cabin Loop Trail
The Circumference Loop is a path around the Center. There are two variations, clockwise and counter-clockwise
Clockwise: Go behind the Farm Store and take go through the open hole in the gate through the blackberry patch on up to the two adirondeck chairs (Observation Deck). Sit down for a spell and give your heart a rest. Procede behind the chairs, and up a steep hill to Fork Henge. Proceed from the central sacrificial turtle stone to the southeast stone and, keeping the juvenile nursery of pines to your right, pass biochar oven to your right. Go down the hill to and limestone stairway to the cemetary. Visit Charles Bowers’ family gravesite and future final resting place of your host Jonathan (to be later joined by Lee Anne). Don’t cross the road unless you have made plans with the Center for Sustainable Stewardship. Follow the trail parallel to the road to the Pine Lake in front of the Circle Center. If you would like to avoid the guests at the Center, go left around the lake and back to the Farm. If you want to meet the Center guests, Center staff, or perhaps interact with the shuffleboard court, horseshoe pitch, of bocci court then go right around the lake.
Counter-clockwise: Start by walking from the Farm Pavillion, through the Wedding Arch , and along the procession pathway to the outdoor chappel (as well as shuffleboard court, horseshoe pitch, and bocci court). Procede past the dock of Pine Lake and through the mature pines to the Bower Cemetary. Pay respects to Charles and Mary, then turn left and go up the wildflower hill and limestone stairway to a nice view of the lake. Continue up to Fork Henge. Proceed from the central sacrificial turtle stone to northeast stone and into the forest. Follow the markers down the steep hill to the Observation Deck with two Adirondeck Chairs. It’s okay to sit down and thank the Creator for the view before you. When you have recovered your composure, go left down the blackberry path to an opening in the fence behind the Farm Store. You should know where you are. Third rock from the sun.
